Welfare
The Suffolk Regiment OCA provides welfare grants to former members of the Regiment and their widows who have fallen on hard times. From a peak of over 60 cases a year in the late 1990s the number of cases is now reducing steadily.
In 2004 44 successful applicants received over £6,000 from OCA funds and a further £24,377 from other ex-services charities (pricipally the Army Benevolent Fund, The Royal British Legion and SAAFA). In this important work the benevolent committee which makes the grants relies on the RBL and SAAFA to carry out the necessary investigation and case work before any request for assisatance is considered by them. If you know of any former member of The Suffolk Regiment who may be in need of such welfare support you should therefore initially contact The RBL or SAAFA so that the case can be investigated.
